Pricing Data Sources
Understand where pricing updates come from and how to keep them current.
Why this matters
Accurate quotes depend on current material and labor prices. SurfaceIQ can refresh pricing from public data sources and then apply your local overrides.
Data sources used
SurfaceIQ uses multiple sources so no single source controls the estimate:
- State DOT asphalt price indices (materials trends by state or region).
- BEA regional price parities (labor and overhead cost differences).
- BLS producer price index (national trend baseline).
- USGS crushed stone price averages (aggregate proxy).
These sources are used to adjust regional tiers. They are not treated as exact installed prices.
What updates automatically
When you click Refresh pricing data, SurfaceIQ will:
- Pull the latest index values.
- Calculate regional adjustment factors.
- Apply the factors to your pricing table.
- Flag anomalies for review.
What you control
- The actual pricing table (low, mid, high).
- The regions and tiers.
- Custom items and local add-ons.
- Margin percent.
Recommended update schedule
- Monthly if you have steady volume.
- Weekly during peak season.
- Immediately after large material price changes.
Best practice
Always review anomalies after refresh. A large change might be valid, but you should confirm it before sending quotes.
